3Marcos, the specialist in fastening and fixing products and solutions, and part of the EU Steel Group, reports a substantial upturn in visitors and business agreed at the Farnborough International Air Show 2010.

3Marcos’ participation, from 19-25 July, was organized for the first time by AICEP, the Portuguese Aeronautical Cluster, to promote Portugal’s integrated aeronautical and aerospace skills.

According to an Air Show spokesperson, this year’s Show witnessed an increased number of exhibitors (1450) compared to the 2008 Show (1393); the event was attended by 70 delegations from 44 countries; and was visited by over 120,000 professionals in the first four days alone. More than 160,000 visitors from the general public also attended; and the volume of business agreed during the Show has totaled more than 36 billion Euros.

Marco Duarte, 3Marcos Special Parts Division Manager, said: “Delegate participation with 3Marcos at the International Airshow was extremely positive. Our relationship with leading names in the aeronautical sector has been greatly enhanced by our attendance this year. We demonstrated clearly that 3Marcos has a firm position and a competitive offering in the demanding aerospace market”

The Portuguese Aeronautic Cluster, as well as representatives from the defense sector, provided a national presence of 42 organizations in one of the most important international aviation arenas. Portugal showcased national companies presenting an integrated group of knowledge and skills, from leading firms, trade associations and universities. The objective, said Duarte, was to promote attractive, rounded and competitive conditions for partnerships with major global aerospace groups.

Brazilian aerospace giant, Embraer, maintained a high profile throughout the event. Luis Funchs, Embraer’s President for Europe, participated as a speaker at the conference organized jointly by Barclays Bank and AICEP.  At the event, titled "The Portuguese Aeronautical Cluster: Looking Ahead, Into the Future," Funchs announced the beginning of construction for two factories in Évora. Construction commences this November.

High on Embraer’s agenda is the qualification process for Portuguese companies, the aim of which is the selection and certification of Portuguese firms capable of providing Embraer with continued progress in Europe. Embraer reported more than 10 Portuguese companies are already certified, and Funchs discussed the possibility of strengthening the Brazilian group’s investment in Portugal, particularly through participation in the KC 390 military cargo plane project.

Marco Duarte remarked: “The 3Marcos Special Parts Production Division, is now focused on production. We are qualified for large and small project demands, and capable of consistently maintaining the highest quality and technical standards required by this very specific market.”

“Looking ahead to 2011, the Portuguese Aeronautical Cluster is already defined for participation at the 49th International Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, which is biggest global aeronautic event. It is to be held from 20 - 26 June 2011. As global demand rises, 3Marcos is preparing to enhance its capacity and retains strong ambition to expand its position in the aeronautic sector.”
