Damovo Video Conferencing Connects Europe’s Tax Officials

“Converged video conferencing solution streamlines communications, enhances productivity and increases cost savings,” said a spokesperson for Damovo, the business specialist communications provider. Damovo recently announced that it is supplying a video conferencing solution to the Republic of Ireland’s Office of the Revenue Commissioners, further integrating European Union import and export controls.

The IP communications systems integrate voice, video and data over the government's Virtual Private Network (VPN). The converged solution enables the Revenue Commissioners to increase cost savings, and improve staff collaboration and productivity. In turn, it is enhancing the delivery of frontline services to the general public.

The Irish Revenue organisation is charged with the assessment and collection of taxes and duties, and administering the import and export controls on behalf of the EU. It employs 7,000 people across one hundred locations nationwide. In order to streamline communications across a large number of disparate sites, Damovo was chosen to deliver a cost-effective, unified communications solution.

Believed to be the first rollout of video over IP by a government body in Ireland, Damovo is installing state-of-the-art video conferencing systems in Revenue meeting rooms throughout the country. Voice, video and data are converged and run free of charge across the government's VPN. Many meetings can now take place without the need for unproductive and expensive travel time.

The solution includes shared application capabilities. Staff can view and edit the same documents on-screen in real time. Important documents can now be simultaneously revised by employees in separate meeting rooms or at their desktops. This removes ping-pong emails and calls, improves productivity and can expedite the time that taxpayers' returns are processed.

The flexible IP solution contains the latest in video-conferencing technologies provided by Damovo's partners Polycom and Interwise. Damovo is reported to be implementing and managing the entire solution.

Paul McDonald, Principal Officer, Irish Revenue Commissioners, said, "We chose Damovo because of its in-depth experience of providing unified communications systems. The solution is having a very positive effect on the way we work together and also how we deliver frontline services to the public. Staff can now spend more time in the office without worrying about traffic congestion or train delays."

John McCabe, Managing Director, Damovo Ireland, said, "With government bodies under increasing pressure to improve communications both internally and with the Irish public, the Revenue's decision to adopt the latest in converged video and voice technologies is a significant step in the right direction. It's helping the Revenue Commissioners to enhance productivity and collaboration. Also, the many cost savings created by this solution will ensure a high return on investment. Ultimately, it's the Irish taxpayers that will benefit most."
