The Spanish economy is the fastest growing in the EU, according to prime minister Jose Rodriguez Zapatero. Speaking recently to businessmen in Madrid, Zapatero said 2006 was the best economic year for the country in 29 years, with the economy growing by 3.9 per cent. Spain was now the eighth largest economy in the world with a GDP in excess of €1000 bn, he added.
