Mullin's Ice Cream Achieves BRC Accreditation
Mullin’s Ice Cream has become the first ice cream producer in Northern Ireland to achieve the British Retail Consortium (BRC) accreditation for food safety.
The Kilrea company was awarded the accreditation, which is regarded globally as the benchmark for best practice in the manufacturing industry, after an intensive audit that evaluated all production, hygiene and documentation processes within the factory.
Mullin’s production manager, Stephen Margey, worked closely with consultants CK Associates who specialise in food safety systems to successfully complete the BRC programme within six months.
Company director, Colm Mullin, is delighted to have achieved this recognition.
“We at Mullin’s are extremely proud to be the first ice cream manufacturer in Northern Ireland to have achieved the BRC accreditation. The process is extremely rigorous and our production team have done a wonderful job in demonstrating the stringent standards that we adhere to and showing due diligence across all our systems,” said Colm.
“While Mullin’s customers have always had confidence in our products, the BRC certificate demonstrates the integrity of our brand and is a seal of approval for best practice, providing an additional assurance that our ice cream is of the highest quality. Alongside the recent investments that we have made at the factory in Kilrea, we believe that this certification will assist us in our goal to expand into the GB and Republic of Ireland markets,” he added.
Mullin’s has been making luxury ice cream in Kilrea since 1954 and now has more than 50 scoop parlours across Northern Ireland. Its ice cream comes in 25 flavours and is made from milk and cream produced by a herd of jersey cows that graze on the valley pastures of the River Bann.
