Whitbread Opens Second Belfast Hotel
WHITBREAD OPENS SECOND BELFAST HOTEL AT CATHEDRAL QUARTER
The UK’s largest and most successful hospitality group has created up to 75 full and part-time jobs with the planned opening of its second Belfast City Centre hotel, at the Four Corners site in the Cathedral Quarter.
Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, owners of Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre Restaurants and Costa Coffee, announced the new 171 bedroom Premier Inn would open in October at an investment value of over £5 million just over a year after its first Belfast hotel at Alfred Street.
The hotel will be led by Keith Freeman, who was General Manager for the first Belfast Premier Inn at Alfred Street and is now Cluster Manager for Premier Inn’s Belfast hotels. Speaking of the new hotel, Keith said: “Premier Inn has invested heavily in Northern Ireland with plans to open a further 10 hotels here over the next 5 years. Our arrival in Belfast has been extremely successful and we have reported occupancy rates of over 90% every month since we first opened, so we have every confidence that this new site will continue this success and cater for the growing business and tourist market in the City Centre.”
The investment has been warmly welcomed by Gerry Lennon Chief Executive of the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, who said, “After celebrating the launch of the Belfast Brand, I am delighted to welcome another excellent hotel to Belfast City Centre which will cater for the growing number of visitors coming to Belfast each year.
“Belfast now welcomes almost 7million visitors including 1.4 million overnight stays, so a hotel of this quality which can cater for business and leisure guests is an important addition to the City.”
The hotel which is situated at the corner of Waring Street and Donegal Street , will also have a 200 seater restaurant and bar, 24-hour reception and underground carparking. Rooms will cater for up to two adults and two children (aged 15 and under) and will include ensuite bathroom with shower and bath; a double bed with duvet; remote control TV/radio alarm; tea/coffee making facilities and a spacious desk area.
The original brickwork façade and window size of the old building has also been maintained in keeping with the Cathedral Quarter area.
Whitbread is a family of companies, all of which are in the business of providing hospitality in one shape or form. It operates the number one brands in the UK in hotels and restaurants and employs 45,000 people welcoming more than 8 million customers a month.
