HRG Offers Corporate Travel Cost Saving Focus

Updated: 13th October 2008

Corporate travel has traditionally been a barometer of the global economy. In times of prosperity travel increases, in times of economic difficulty business travel budgets have been some of the first to be cut. However, there is a growing realisation and recognition that business must go on, particularly in today’s global marketplace.

Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), the international corporate travel services company, is particularly skilled at helping clients through these difficult periods, changing the way that corporate travel is both used and viewed to help them achieve their business objectives and create real value.

“The role of a corporate travel services provider is more important than ever,” explains Ian Windsor, Managing Director of HRG UK. “Our role is to help our clients optimise their travel budgets, focusing on cost savings and efficiencies where appropriate and creating maximum return on expenditure. This may mean helping companies achieve better control and compliance to travel policy, suggesting alternatives to travel such as video conferencing or considering the best service option to meet their needs.”

HRG cites the advancement of technology as a key component in helping business retain true visibility of their travel expenditure – something that is particularly important when budgets are tight. “Companies can now monitor their travel patterns and spend, even before a business trip has taken place,” says Windsor. “Our ability to provide comprehensive data reporting solutions is essential in helping companies understand where cost savings can be made, without affecting critical business travel trips. This data can also be used to negotiate specific deals with suppliers, leveraging total travel spend to best advantage.”

An online booking tool is often considered a ‘quick fix’ by companies looking to reduce their overall travel spend but HRG is keen to ensure that companies consider all the elements involved and select the right solution to meet their needs.

Ian Windsor expands: “Self service reservation tools are great as part of the overall corporate travel solutions mix, particularly when booking simple, point-to-point trips, but they can’t replace the intellect of a trained consultant for complex requirements.”

Focusing on achieving maximum cost savings for clients, HRG has rolled out its dedicated solution, HRG Global Pricing DeskTM, across Europe with plans to extend the service into North America and Asia Pacific later this year. The service will help organisations achieve greater value from their investment in corporate travel and could result in an average 13% saving per air ticket.

The bespoke solution taps into a team of highly skilled and experienced fares analysts’ knowledge of routes, air fares and complex IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules to obtain the very best rates on multi-sector flights on a proactive, pre-trip basis. HRG also offers a comprehensive fare auditing solution to ensure that businesses also have access to the very best deals before they book a trip.

Ian Windsor concludes: “The turmoil in the global financial markets is not going to disappear overnight and this will only add to the pressure that businesses are under in today’s competitive environment. This is when our skills and expertise is at its most valuable, working in partnership with our clients and offering significant, value-added solutions.”
