Structural Funds:  The total allocation of structural funds to UK during this programme period was €16,377 million. The total sum of payments to date (18/09/2009) amounts to €15,009 million.  The maximum of 95% has not yet been reached (it currently stands at 91.64%) and interim payment requests are still being submitted and processed by the Commission.

A final payment request in July 2009 has been received from Northern Ireland. English regions did not choose to avail of the opportunity to extend the eligibility of their programmes and therefore the final payment requests are due in March 2010.  The final payment requests for Gibraltar, PEACE, Scotland and Wales are due by September 2010 at the latest.

2007 – 2013

The total allocation for Cohesion Policy in this programming period is over €9,891 million or nearly 3% of the total allocation.  This figure breaks down to €5,416 million of ERDF, and €4,475 million of ESF.

Advance payments to UK regions totals near €406 million.  These include the additional advances agreed by the Commission as part of the economic recovery package.

Claims to date:  The forecast for expenditure declared to the Managing Authority is €130.41 million.  Interim payment requests have been processed and paid by the Commission for the three operational programmes; West Wales and the Valleys, East Wales, and Gibraltar.

Major projects:  To date 4 applications for major projects have been submitted, the estimated costs of these projects is €264 million with ERDF contribution of €93 million.

Financial engineering instruments:  Three regions in England are in the process of setting up VCLFs (East of England, the West Midlands).  A JEREMIE instrument was launched in Wales in April 2009, other regions considering or progress with this instrument include the North East of England, the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber.  The London Programme will launch its JESSICA on 21 October 2009 (Commissioner Samecki will be launching with the Mayor of London). The East Midlands and both Scottish regions are considering such an instrument.
