Bob Bob Ricard, or BBR, the David Collins designed restaurant and members bar in Soho, London, is introducing an innovative pricing policy to its new Reserve wine list, that will enable customers to purchase rare and exclusive wines for a fraction of the typical cost found in most fine dining establishments.

The new list, featuring bottles such as a 1995 L’Eglise Clinet and the 1985 Haut Brion - guarantees that a surcharge of no higher than £50 will be applied to any wine on the Reserve list.

“A £50 surcharge per bottle is more than sufficient to cover the cost of selecting, sourcing, storing and serving big wines beautifully.” – says Leonid Shutov, the co-owner of BBR, “as a result of our guarantee, all the wines on the BBR Reserve list are well below typical London restaurant prices and many are even below the retail price. People that are used to having important wines when dining out will go home with a lot left in their wallets. The rest will have the opportunity to trade up to bigger wines without trading up to bigger margins,” adds Shutov.

The Food

BBR seats 140 and features an expansive menu offering traditional British comfort food with a twist. Quirky options such as Jelly and Champagne sit happily with more traditional fare such as Beef Wellington or Macaroni Cheese. With all options available all the time, BBR can justify its bold claim that it offers something to suit everyone’s tastes: a meal can be a light snack or an indulgent three courses. All food is sourced from quality British suppliers.

Sweeter options such as the BBR soufflés also feature, along with a selection of cakes and afternoon tea. Individual toasters are provided when necessary adding to the idiosyncrasy of the menu, and further testament to the customer-led element to the BBR experience: patrons can order what they want, when they want, how they want.

Design

The interior at BBR is every bit as distinctive as the menu. Integrating a mixture of textures and materials in an array of bold colours, Collins has created a space with a great detail to attention. Cubist chandeliers hang from a high Venetian-mirrored ceiling, while the recessed lighting and marble panels are Art Deco in feel. Ancestral portraits hang on brightly coloured, bold patterned walls and in the secluded private dining section, dark wood lined walls house eccentric antiques.
Most notable are the curtained booths which form the layout of the restaurant and bar. Designed for groups between 2 and 8, and with special tables for solo guests, the booths not only act as a main design feature, paying homage to the elegant interiors of infamously luxurious trains such as the Orient Express; but they also lend BBR both a convivial buzz and a sense of intimacy.

People

BBR is owned by seasoned entrepreneurs Lenoid Shutov and Richard Howarth. Based in London , the pair have gained enviable experience from the various vocations they have enjoyed prior to opening BBR: Howarth worked in Advertising, while Shutov has owned and run a series of successful business in Film, Food and Finance. Taking an active involvement in all aspects of the restaurant, both Howarth and Shutov are interested in creating businesses that stand apart from competitors in both their quality and eccentricity, something that is only possible with personal investment and ownership.
